Low THC Oil (Medical Marijuana) Information
The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), in close consultation with the Georgia Composite Medical Board, has developed a Low THC Oil Registry for patients and caregivers who qualify to carry an identification card under Georgia House Bill 1. This card will allow patients and caregivers to possess 20 fluid ounces of THC oil within the state of GA.
The basic steps to obtain a card are as follows:
- Patients and caregivers of patients who believe they may be eligible should consult with their physician about the possibility of obtaining a card allowing them to possess 20 fluid ounces of low THC oil within the state of Georgia.
- If approved by the physician, the patient or patient’s caregivers’ information will be entered into DPH’s secure “Low THC Oil Registry” and a card(s) will be issued.
- Patients and caregivers will be notified when the cards are ready for pickup (within 15 business days) from one of several public health offices geographically spread around the state.
Note: The Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Departments do not have a role in the approval or distribution of low TCH oil. All requests should be sent to the GA Department of Public Health.
General Information: Georgia law requires that a doctor certify that s/he has examined the patient and determined that they suffer from one of the qualifying conditions. The doctor will then complete a registration with the State THC Oil registry found at https://dph.georgia.gov/low-thc-oil-registry
Once all information is entered into the registry, the GA Department of Public Health, Office of Vital Records will issue a card and notify the patient where the card can be picked up the. Pick up locations are geographically dispersed throughout the state. Note: Health Department Clinics in Gwinnett, Newton or Rockdale Counties are not identified as pick up locations.
