ServSafe Food Safety Certification
The current Georgia Food Code requires that each facility have at least one staff member that has managerial or supervisory responsibilities to hold a nationally-recognized food safety manager certification.
Gwinnett Environmental Health offers the ServSafe Food Safety Manager course and exam, by the National Restaurant Association Solutions, in an effort to help food service facilities meet the requirement.
In addition to the course and exam offered at Gwinnett Environmental Health, individuals may get certified through any Georgia Department of Public Health-approved food safety manager certification course.

Location
The ServSafe Food Safety Manager course and exam is held at the Gwinnett Environmental Health office, located at 455 Grayson Highway Suite 600, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The telephone number is (770) 963-5132.
Course Schedule and Class Size
This two-day course teaches class information on the first day and reviews class information and administers the certification exam on day two.
On both days, class begins at 8:30 a.m. Day one includes an hour break for lunch and ends at 4:30 p.m. On day two, students may leave once they completed the exam.
The class size is limited to 15 students.
How to Register
To register for the course, please come to the Gwinnett Environmental Health office to pay for the course and pick up the textbook.
Cost
The cost of the course is $150 per student. The fee for the class includes a copy of the textbook.
Preparing for the course
It is strongly recommended that you read the textbook prior to the course. This is a comprehensive course that covers many areas of food safety including food-borne illnesses, proper food handling, personal hygiene, and facility design, and maintenance. The course is a mixture of lectures, videos, and discussions that moves at a fast pace. The entire textbook will be covered during the one day of course instruction.
ServSafe exam
The exam is a standardized test which is developed by the National Restaurant Education Foundation. Find out more at www.servsafe.com.
Exam results are typically available online at www.servsafe.com 10 days after the exam. Grade reports and certificates will be mailed out approximately two (2) weeks after the exam date.
If you take the course and exam but do not pass the exam, you may register to take a retest any time the exam is offered at our office. The charge for retesting is $60. If you fail to pass the exam a second time, you must wait 90 days to take the exam a third time.
Class Rescheduling
If you register for the class but are unable to attend, you may reschedule once at no additional charge. If you need to reschedule, please give as much notice as possible so that your spot in class may be given to another student.
If you cancel more than once, you must pay the $150 registration fee again.
