Body Artist Certification and Application

The current Georgia Body Art Rules and Regulations requires that each Body Artist obtain certification in one or more Body Artist specialty (e.g., tattooing, microblading, and piercing) prior applying for a Body Artist permit prior to practicing body art procedures.  In order to obtain certification, the body artist must successfully pass a Georgia Department of Public Health test administered by the local environmental health office.

Testing Location

All Body Artist certification testing for Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale counties will be administered only at Gwinnett Environmental Health. The office is located at 455 Grayson Highway Suite 600, Lawrenceville, GA 30046 (770) 963-5132.

Registration

To register for the test, call the Gwinnett Environmental Health office at (770) 963-5132.  Provide legal government name as this information will be verified against your government-issued ID. Testing is offered every Wednesday between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Cost

The cost is $50 per test if you are testing for more than one certification. For example, if you are testing for both the tattooing and microblading certifications, the total cost is $100. Payment will be rendered at your scheduled testing time.

Preparation for test

Please bring a photo government issued ID during your testing time. Review the 2023 Body Art Rules and Regulations prior to testing.

Rescheduling

If you need to reschedule, please call the Gwinnett Environmental Health office at (770) 963-5132 for appointment availability.

Once the certification test has been successfully passed, the test results will be forwarded to the Georgia Department of Public Health. They will then reach out to the applicant via the contact information provided during testing to send the Body Art Artist Permit Application. Each Body Art Artist permit is valid for one year and may be renewed on a standard date to be determined by the Georgia Department of Public health.
